Mohd Puad Zarkashi said Abdul Hamid Bador’s accusation that the police force commission (SPP) has been tainted by political elements tarnishes the credibility of the force.
Yesterday, Hamid, whose contract ends on Monday, lashed out at home minister Hamzah Zainudin’s interference in police matters.
The revelation came hours after Hamzah confirmed that he was the person in a leaked recording of a conversation discussing the reshuffling and appointments of senior police officers.

Hamid will be replaced by deputy IGP Acryl Sani Abdullah.
“So an RCI needs to be set up to investigate the matter,” Puad said in a statement last night.
Meanwhile, former deputy minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Hanipa Maidin also believes Hamid’s claim should be investigated.
“Following the rule of law, it is not appropriate for anyone to jump to the conclusion that Hamzah is guilty,” he said, adding this was why a thorough investigation was needed.

Hanipa, however, questioned how the police could carry out an independent and credible investigation on the minister who oversees the force.
“To enable a fair, professional and independent investigation, it is only appropriate for the home minister to be asked to go on leave until the investigation is completed.
“It is also not wrong to ask the IGP and his successor to go on leave so that the investigation can be carried out properly.”
