PETALING JAYA:
A RM1 million suit is being filed against Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) by the mother of a teenager killed by an old office chair thrown from the 17th floor of a PPR flat at Pantai Dalam three years ago.

S Kasthuribai said she wanted to prevent a similar accident from happening.

“My child has died. I don’t want another teenager to go through the same experience,” she said at the flats today.

S Sathiswaran, a 15-year-old student at SMK La Salle in Petaling Jaya, died on the spot after the chair hit his head while heading home in January 2018.

Arun Doraisamy, from the Sathiswaran Action Team, said that apart from financial compensation, the family will seek an explanation from the police on their investigation into the incident.

He said the police had previously opened an investigation under Section 304A of the Penal Code for causing death by negligence or recklessness.

“What is the latest development on the case and has it been classified as ‘No Further Action’ (NFA)?” he asked.

Arun said the family was suing DBKL as it was the authority responsible for the maintenance of public areas.

He said they sent a letter of demand to DBKL in November last year but had not received any reply.
