EMCO at 2 more schools

Senior minister for security Ismail Sabri Yaakob says the EMCO will affect SMK Agama Johor Bahru and Maahad Tahfiz Al-Quran Al-Asriah in Kelantan.

A third tahfiz school in Kelantan has been placed under the enhanced movement control order this week.

A secondary school in Johor and a tahfiz school in Kelantan will be placed under an enhanced movement control order (EMCO) effective tomorrow.

Senior minister for security Ismail Sabri Yaakob said the EMCO will affect SMK Agama Johor Bahru, Johor and Maahad Tahfiz Al-Quran Al-Asriah, Banggol Chicha, Pasir Mas, Kelantan, after the health ministry reported 13 and 28 Covid-19 cases, respectively.

The EMCO in both localities is set to last until May 6.

Meanwhile, Ismail also said that the EMCO involving four localities in Sabah and three in Pahang will end tomorrow.

The localities are: Institut Latihan Perindustrian Sandakan, Taman Permata and Taman Seri Labuk in Sandakan, and Kampung Gayang in Tuaran, Sabah, as well as Ladang Leepang, Ladang Laukin and Kampung Inoi in Rompin, Pahang.

On the arrests yesterday, Ismail said 200 people were arrested for various offences where 198 were issued compounds and two remanded.

Among the offences were the failure to wear a face mask (53), failure to record personal details/check-in at premises (46), flouting physical-distancing rules (44), participating in activities at entertainment centres (28), and others (29).

Authorities also seized nine vehicles and arrested six illegal migrants yesterday as part of border surveillance operations.
