Sarawak disaster management committee chairman Douglas Uggah Embas said with the availability of the single-dose vaccine from China, the authorities and health personnel would not have to return to the same remote village for a second time.
“This will help us speed up the vaccination process and achieve our target of vaccinating 70% of the population in Sarawak, covering 2.2 million people, by August,” he told the reporters today.
“Besides, the rural population will not be vaccinating based on the current three phases listed under the vaccination programme but based on their location,” he said.
For instance, if a particular location is selected for vaccination this week; all the eligible recipients in the area will receive the Covid-19 vaccines within the same period of time.
Uggah, who is also deputy chief minister, said about 66% of the 2.2 million adult population in Sarawak had registered for the vaccine via MySejahtera and district offices across the state.
“Most of the rural folks, who don’t have MySejahtera, have registered with the district offices,” he explained.
