PETALING JAYA:
A 58-year-old man’s despair at having his car stolen in a moment of panic soon turned to relief as members of the public came to his aid to retrieve his vehicle.

Brickfields police chief Anuar Omar said the incident occurred around 2pm on Tuesday at Jalan Kuchai Maju 13, Kuala Lumpur.

The victim was waiting at a traffic light when a man entered the car and sat in the back seat. The victim then ran out of the car out of panic and fear, allowing the thief to drive off in the vehicle.

Motorists who saw the incident then gave chase and successfully cornered the stolen vehicle. At least four cars were involved in cornering the car thief.

The man was detained by the public and suffered minor injuries on his shoulder and lip after a scuffle when he tried to flee the scene.

The victim did not suffer any injuries and his car was not damaged, while all his personal belongings were still there.

“The victim did not suffer any losses and the scene of the crime did not have any CCTVs,” Anuar said in a statement today.
