
Chow Kon Yeow said his appointment had received the consent of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong.
He also thanked the incumbent governor, Abdul Rahman Abbas, for his service of 20 years. Rahman had been the governor over seven three-year terms since 2001.
According to Chow, Fuzi would be sworn in at Dewan Sri Pinang a day after he receives his appointment letter from the King on April 30.
The Penang-born Fuzi joined the diplomatic and administrative services in 1972 and served in various capacities at the foreign ministry until 2009.
He also served at various Malaysian missions, namely in the US, Russia, Australia and Bangladesh. He was previously the Malaysia director-general for the Institute of Diplomacy and Foreign Relations.
Fuzi was also the country’s representative in the drafting of the Asean Human Rights Declaration, which was adopted in 2012.
Currently, he is the secretary-general of the World Islamic Economic Forum Foundation and ACE Investment Bank chairman.
He is also the patron of the Malaysia-China Culture Association besides being an adviser and sitting on the boards of many think-tanks on diplomacy and foreign relations.
Fuzi is also a proud alumnus of Bukit Mertajam High School and an adviser to its alumni association.
