8 new Covid-19 clusters, 5 involving the workplace

The clusters were detected in Selangor, Kelantan, Sarawak, and Sabah.

Tracing of close contacts is going on in the cluster areas.
PETALING JAYA:
The health ministry has detected eight new Covid-19 clusters in the past 24 hours, health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said today.

In a statement, he said five of them were workplace clusters and three were community clusters.

Four clusters were detected in Sarawak and two in Selangor. One cluster each was detected in Kelantan and Sabah.

Clusters that recorded the most cases today were the Cybersouth construction site (180), Jalan Kasawari (49), and Telok Mas (44).

Sarawak

  • Jalan Bambangan – a workplace cluster involving Mukah and Dalat. The index case was detected on April 7 through a screening of a symptomatic individual. This cluster involves a learning institution. Some 72 people were screened, with 30 testing positive.
  • Jalan Badarudin – a workplace cluster involving Kuching and Samarahan. The index case was detected on April 7 through a screening of a symptomatic individual. This cluster involves a public administration centre. Some 91 people were screened, with 17 testing positive.
  • Nanga Kelangas – a community cluster in Julau. The index case was detected on April 4 through a screening of a symptomatic individual. Of the 57 people screened, 37 tested positive.
  • Abak Bon – a community cluster involving Miri and Subis. The index case was detected on March 27 through a pre-operation screening. The name of the cluster refers to the locality of longhouses where the cases were detected. Of the 175 people screened, 34 tested positive.

Selangor

  • Jalan Kasawari – a workplace cluster in Kuala Langat. Positive cases were detected on April 11 after a screening of factory workers at Kawasan Perusahaan Kebun Baru, Telok Panglima Garang. Some 198 people were screened, with 49 testing positive.
  • Jalan Desaria – a workplace cluster involving Sepang, Gombak, and Hulu Langat. The index case was detected on April 8 through a screening of a symptomatic individual. This cluster involves a public institution in Jalan Desaria, Puchong. Some 193 people were screened, with 13 testing positive.

Kelantan

  • Jalan Zainab – a workplace cluster involving Pasir Puteh, Bachok, Kota Bharu, Pasir Mas, and Tumpat. The index case was detected on April 6 through a screening of a symptomatic individual. Some 286 people were screened, with 51 testing positive.

Sabah

  • Meruntum – a community cluster involving Putatan and Penampang. The index case was detected on April 10 through a close contact screening. The infection spread at a social event in Kampung Meruntum, Putatan. Of the 72 people screened, eight tested positive.
