“After taking the train from Sri Damansara Sentral to Kampung Batu, I am very impressed with the level of readiness for the operations of Phase One of the MRT Putrajaya Line,” he said after inspecting the line.
At a press conference today, he said the main objectives of the Putrajaya Line were to provide better accessibility for these densely populated areas as well as to create a modern, efficient and safe transport system.
He added this will directly benefit the people living in those areas as they will see more business establishments, increased property value and urban renewal.
Mass Rapid Transit Corporation Sdn Bhd (MRT Corp) said that the progress of Phase One currently stands at 97%.
“The remaining 3% consists mostly of testing and commissioning of electrical and mechanical systems,” the company said.
It added that the remainder of the MRT Putrajaya Line from Kampung Batu to Putrajaya Sentral is scheduled to begin operations upon completion of Phase Two in January 2023.
The MRT Putrajaya Line is the second line under the Klang Valley MRT project. It will have 36 stations, of which 10 are interchange stations. The entire alignment is 57.7km, from Kwasa Damansara to Putrajaya Sentral.
Meanwhile, Wee said the government has agreed to go ahead with the construction of the MRT Circle line (MRT3) which was previously suspended by the Pakatan Harapan-led (PH) government.
He added that MRT Corp will be the project holder and developer, and hopes to kick-start the project in the second half of the year.
“The government is serious in taking on immediate infrastructure projects as a way to boost the country’s economy and ensure the people enjoy the benefits of MRT3,” he said.
The project was reinstated under the 2021 budget announced by finance minister Tengku Zafrul Aziz last November.
