Health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said there were 1,148 recoveries, bringing the total number of those discharged to 328,554.
In a statement, Noor Hisham said the total number of infections now stands at 344,018.
There are 14,199 active cases, with 161 patients being treated in intensive care and 76 requiring respiratory assistance.
Meanwhile, the five deaths take the number of fatalities to 1,265.
Selangor recorded the highest number of infections with 401.
This was followed by Penang (194), Sarawak (153), Johor (96), Kuala Lumpur (53), Perak (44), Kelantan (44), Sabah (41), Kedah (41), Negeri Sembilan (39), Pahang (16), Melaka (six), Terengganu (two), Labuan (one), Putrajaya (one), and Perlis (one).
The new cases today involved 1,125 local infections and eight imported cases. Local cases comprised 781 Malaysians and 344 foreigners.
There were 87 cases from prisons and immigration detention centres today, mostly involving the Jalan Harapan prison cluster, with 73 cases.
All five deaths today involved Malaysians, aged between 34 and 88, where all suffered from existing medical conditions.
