In a statement today, senior minister for security Ismail Sabri Yaakob said the Rohaniah care centre in Sekolah Integrasi Ikhwan, Kampung Gong Kulim, Semerak, Pasir Puteh will be under the EMCO after 25 positive cases were detected in the locality.
The EMCO at the centre will last until April 11.
“The EMCO will allow the health ministry to conduct targeted screening of all residents as well as control movement and the spread of infections within the community,” said Ismail.
Meanwhile, the EMCO at Tapah prison in Batang Padang, Perak, will be extended until April 12.
Ismail said this comes after the health ministry detected another 27 detainees who tested positive on March 25. A total of 3,787 people have been screened so far, with 834 found positive for the virus.
However, the lockdown at the Tapah prison staff quarters will be lifted tomorrow, as previously scheduled.
Ismail also announced that the movement control order (MCO) in Nabawan, Sabah, will be lifted on March 30, after only one new infection was reported on March 26.
He added that the EMCO at Pulau Tioman in Rompin, Pahang, would also end tomorrow, except for Kampung Juara, which will be under lockdown until April 6 as the health ministry had detected 32 infections in the area.
Ismail also said the EMCO at Kampung Bintawa Ulu and Tengah in Kuching, Sarawak, would be lifted on March 30 as previously scheduled. This came after the health ministry confirmed that the cluster involving both these localities was under control.
Ismail also said 107 people were nabbed yesterday for breaching MCO rules, with 89 being fined and the remaining 18 being remanded.
Among the offences were failing to observe physical distancing, failure to provide materials for contact tracing or registration of customers and participating in activities at entertainment centres.
The authorities also arrested 28 undocumented migrants and five smugglers under the ongoing Op Benteng. Twelve vehicles were seized.
