Kapayan assemblyman Jannie Lasimbang of DAP said Sabah has recorded the lowest registration rate, while seven million people across the country have signed up. Only 10.6% of Sabahans have registered, she said.
“Now that the government is considering a registration deadline in June this year, this low rate of registration could mean many in Sabah may be left out. It is impractical to have a short and sudden deadline,” she said.
Lasimbang said the lack of internet coverage especially in rural and suburban areas could be a reason for the low numbers, as the main platform to register is through the MySejahtera App.
“The government must consider other ways, aside from online registration or applications in person.” She said the state government and the health ministry should put more effort in creating awareness to allay fears about the vaccine.
Village committees and urban community committees should be roped in to help residents register for vaccination, she said.
