In the report sighted by FMT, Rosli said it was not true that he was appointed to act for the government in the 1MDB cases as he was acting for the sovereign wealth fund and not Putrajaya.
He also said it was not true the government appointed him to negotiate the settlement with Goldman Sachs instead of using the services of the Attorney-General’s Chambers, maintaining that the AGC always acts on behalf of the government.
“(The accusation) that I received up to RM1.7 billion in legal fees from the Goldman Sachs settlement, worth nearly RM17 billion, is malicious (and a) slander. My legal fees were much lower than that,” he said.
Rosli also denied that he received RM283 million as legal fees after Ambank’s 1MDB settlement, saying he charged “by the hour” and would only be paid after the full settlement.
He alleged that Lokman had made the claims in two videos posted on his Facebook page, adding that the second video also claimed that he would become the new attorney-general and would be dropping all court cases involving Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin’s “gang”.
He also denied an alleged claim by Sallehudin that he had paid RM500 million to PPBM for helping Putrajaya reach a settlement with Goldman Sachs, saying he did not earn enough in legal fees to even afford to pay such a high commission.
Rosli claimed that the allegation was made to tarnish his reputation and that of PPBM and the prime minister.
Last week, Sallehudin’s office lodged a police report urging authorities to investigate a claim that RM500 million had been paid to a political party through a “high-profile lawyer” after the allegation went viral on social media.
In the report lodged at the Dang Wangi police station on March 12, the Pejuang assemblyman claimed the money was a commission for helping Putrajaya reach a settlement with Goldman Sachs.
Rosli also dismissed a claim that the Pakatan Harapan-led (PH) government had demanded US$9.6 billion from Goldman Sachs for the settlement, saying PH had only called for US$4 billion.
“The settlement reached by the Perikatan Nasional-led government was US$3.9 billion,” he said.
He urged the police to probe Lokman, Sallehudin and Mohd Hanizam Yunus, an officer for the Kuang assemblyman, under Sections 500, 120B, 182 and 124I of the Penal Code.
He also wanted them investigated under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act and Section 4 of the Sedition Act.
