DAP slams PAS plan to redraw boundaries to benefit Malay-Muslim community

Its secretary-general says the idea based on race and religion is 'divisive and irresponsible'.

Lim Guan Eng said ‘justice-loving Malaysian’ would reject Khairuddin Aman Razali’s proposal.
PETALING JAYA:
DAP has described PAS’ proposal to redraw election boundaries to benefit the Malay-Muslim community as an admission the Perikatan Nasional-led government will “gerrymander constituencies” at the expense of others.

Its secretary-general, Lim Guan Eng, said the proposal by PAS’ Khairuddin Aman Razali was “divisive and irresponsible” and would “discriminate, deprive and deny the rights of non-Malays and non-Muslims”.

Khairuddin, the plantation industries and commodities minister, had said in a Facebook post that if PN won the general election with a two-thirds majority, changes to election boundaries to benefit Malay-Muslims could be made, as well as increasing the number of parliamentary seats in Malay-majority states.

“We can achieve this goal by strengthening the alliance (among) the three Malay parties, despite the obstacles. Straight fights are important in order to win GE15,” he said.

In a statement today, Lim said the suggestion on redrawing electoral boundaries based on race and religion was unconstitutional, and would be rejected by “all right-thinking and justice-loving Malaysians”.
