A joint statement today by foreign minister Hishammuddin Hussein and Singaporean foreign minister Dr Vivian Balakrishnan said discussions will be held with a view towards stimulating recovery from the effects of the pandemic.
“The operational details of the Reciprocal Recognition of Vaccine Certificate between Malaysia and Singapore, including the detailed requirements, health protocols, and application process involved for entry and exit of both countries will be further deliberated and finalised by both parties,” the statement said.
Both governments have also decided to work towards restoring cross-border travel for other groups of travellers in addition to the Reciprocal Green Lane (RGL) and the Periodic Commuting Arrangement (PCA).
The countries will continue with their respective national vaccination programmes to vaccinate long-term residents including Malaysians residing in Singapore and Singaporeans residing in Malaysia, the statement added.
“The two ministers had a constructive discussion on the respective vaccination rollout plans under way in Malaysia and Singapore, and how this could facilitate cross-border travel between both countries in the near future.”
In January, Singapore suspended its green lane travel arrangements with Malaysia for three months from Feb 1 following the surge in Covid-19 cases.
Singapore’s foreign affairs ministry also suspended RGL arrangements with Germany and South Korea.
