MUDA’s website to report ministers, VIPs who breach SOP takes off

The party's pro tem secretary-general Amir Hariri Abdul Hadi says they have received almost 50 complaints since the website was launched on Tuesday.

PETALING JAYA:
Political party MUDA has launched a website for the public to report ministers and VIPs who violate movement control order (MCO) regulations.

Its pro tem secretary-general Amir Hariri Abdul Hadi said there seemed to be a double standard in the enforcement of standard operating procedures (SOPs), as news reports often showed the general public being issued fines, but not VIPs or ministers, who were seen flouting the same SOPs.

“Because of this, we felt like we had to do something. If no one speaks up about it, action will never be taken against them,” he told FMT.

According to Amir, nearly 50 people have lodged complaints since the site www.lapormenteri.com was launched on Tuesday.

He reassured that complainants’ personal details will not be revealed, adding that people always had the option of using a pseudonym.

“All we ask for is evidence in the form of pictures or videos of dignitaries who have violated the SOPs, and where the offence was committed,” he said.

Amir said after the complaint has been verified, the individuals reported would be placed on a “wall of shame” on the site.

He added that MUDA would also lodge official police reports and urge the authorities to take action against the alleged SOP-violators.

So far, the party has lodged reports against several individuals, including federal territories minister Annuar Musa, senior minister for security Ismail Sabri Yaakob and housing and local government minister Zuraida Kamaruddin.

Asked if they were afraid of receiving threats over the website, Amir said his party was aware of the risks they might face but believed that justice must prevail.

“We know there are risks to this, of course. But if we don’t take the initiative, then no action will be taken.”
