When Ramadan bazaars can be held, why not Parliament, asks Puad

The Umno leader says if senior citizens can visit Ramadan bazaars and take part in Terawih prayers, they can also be present in Parliament.

PETALING JAYA:
Umno Supreme Council member Mohd Puad Zarkashi today said with the government planning to allow Ramadan bazaars and Terawih prayers next month, Parliament should also reconvene.

He said the concern about Parliament sitting with many of its members being senior citizens also did not make sense, as elderly people too would likely carry out Terawih (evening) prayers and shop at the Ramadan bazaars.

“If this is the case, is the emergency still relevant? When everything can be done, the government should inform the Yang di-Pertuan Agong when Parliament can reconvene,” he said in a Facebook post today.

Yesterday, the government gave the green light for Ramadan and Hari Raya Aidilfitri bazaars to be held this year, subject to strict health and safety standard operating procedures.

The National Security Council has also allowed congregational Terawih prayers and other religious activities such as Al-Quran recitals at mosques, but added that this would depend on the respective state governments.
