Amanpreet Bajaj, Airbnb’s general manager for India, Southeast Asia, Hong Kong and Taiwan said they collaborated with several experts from government health agencies to ensure there was compliance in terms of cleanliness and safety among the thousands of accommodations under their app.
“An enhanced cleaning protocol was launched offering the first overarching standardised protocol for guidelines in cleaning and sanitisation.
“Every host is required to agree to wear masks, social distance while interacting with others and adopt the enhanced cleaning protocol,” Amanpreet said in a media briefing.
He added that flexible policies and host relief were created to provide guests cancellation and refund options and to add to recovery efforts, 8,700 superhosts worldwide have received grants of up to US$5,000.
Based on travel trends conducted by Airbnb, Amanpreet said Malaysians want to connect with their families once travel resumes.
“Overall, staying close to our loved ones is the most important thing on the minds of Malaysians as family vacations remain the top travel priority for the country and calming destinations that are close to nature will serve as a driving force for domestic tourism,” he said.
Amanpreet added that familiar destinations continue to top Malaysians’ bucket lists with Penang emerging as the top go-to domestic travel destination followed by Sabah, Kuala Lumpur, Terengganu and Johor.
“Airbnb remains committed to supporting the long-term tourism growth and economic recovery in Malaysia and the local community.”
