Perak waits for AGC’s views on state assembly sitting

Speaker says there have been several suggestions to reconvene the state legislative assembly.

The Perak legal adviser has sought the views of the Attorney-General’s Chambers on the reconvening of the state assembly.
IPOH:
Perak is waiting for a reply from the Attorney-General’s Chambers (AGC) on its request to hold a state assembly sitting in the near future.

Speaker Mohamad Zahir Abdul Khalid said the state legal adviser had sought the view of the AGC on the matter.

“We are still waiting to be informed whether it can be implemented or otherwise,” he said, adding that the assembly will consider its next course of action when the views are made known.

He said he will also have discussions with the menteri besar and and other parties in the state assembly, including the opposition.

Zahir, who had earlier officiated at a seminar in conjunction with International Women’s Day, said he had received many suggestions on the reconvening of the state assembly, but what mattered were the views of the state legal adviser and the AGC.

He hoped the assembly could sit no later than June after its last meeting was held in December.

On Feb 24, the Yang di-Pertuan Agong decreed that Parliament could sit during the emergency on a date deemed appropriate by him, based on the advice of the prime minister.
