Look what’s cooking – Pavithra’s back!

After a five-month hiatus, YouTube sensation has returned with a mutton curry and cucumber salad recipe which was uploaded on Feb 20.

Sugu Pavithra’s new YouTube video has been viewed almost 90,000 times.
PETALING JAYA:
Local YouTube sensation S Pavithra, who rose to fame with her humble cooking videos during the first movement control order (MCO) last year, is back.

After a five-month hiatus, Pavithra has been regularly uploading new videos over the past two weeks, starting with a recipe on mutton curry and cucumber salad.

“How is everyone? Hope you all are in good health,” she greeted viewers at the start of the nearly nine-minute long video uploaded on Feb 20. It has since garnered over 88,000 views.

Older videos from a year ago, which were previously deleted by her husband M Sugu due to personal reasons, have also reappeared on the channel. In the latest video, Sugu is seen joining her and the family to partake of the food at the end of the video.

Excited fans have left positive comments on the video in support of her return to the platform.

“Welcome back akak (sister) Pavithra, you’ve been gone for a long time. Do your best, we Malaysians will support you,” said user Isa Abdillah Mohamad.

Another user, who goes by the username “Mrjoemarc Official”, said he was surprised when he received a notification that Pavithra had uploaded a new video.

“I clicked straight away. Many were wondering where you went, Pavithra. Welcome back. I hope you and your family are well,” he wrote.

Pavithra had captured national attention with her fluent commentaries in Bahasa Melayu as she prepared simple home-cooked dishes.

The videos had been viewed 35 million times and their channel garnered more than 810,000 followers and even attracted the attention of the King and the prime minister.

Everything came to a sudden halt last July when Sugu was charged with possession of an offensive weapon and also accused of physically attacking his wife.

On July 24, he pleaded not guilty at the Ipoh sessions court to having a dangerous weapon and causing injury to his wife using a mobile phone and the back of a sickle.

Two days later, all 98 of the videos on the couple’s YouTube channel were deleted. At the time, Sugu had reportedly said that he had deleted the videos and that the couple would be preparing new videos.

However, Pavithra appeared to have taken a break from the platform after her last video on Oct 1.

Meanwhile, on Sept 17 last year, the Ipoh sessions court had given a discharge not amounting to an acquittal to Sugu on the charge of assaulting Pavithra, after she had taken an oath to withdraw the charge voluntarily without coercion and intimidation, during the proceedings.

Then on Jan 11, the Ipoh sessions court released Sugu on a good behaviour bond for three years for possession of an offensive weapon.
