Those arrested were officers manning the state JPJ’s counters. They consisted of five men and two women, aged between 27 and 42.

“The suspects were alleged to have manipulated the MySikap system on licence renewals.

“This led to losses of up to RM3.1 million in JPJ’s tax revenue, from July to December 2019,” the source said.

MACC chief commissioner Azam Baki, who is in the city for a meeting with his state officers, confirmed the seven officers’ arrests.

He said they will seek remand orders against the seven at the magistrates’ court here on Monday to facilitate investigations under Section 18 of the MACC Act.

“We will continue to work with JPJ so that steps can be taken to improve the system and avoid corrupt practices within the system,” Azam said.

He also urged anyone to come forward and provide information to MACC. In this licence renewal case, the complainant was the JPJ director-general himself.
