In the letter of demand, Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin is seeking a public apology and RM10 million in compensation from Puad for allegedly defaming him.
“I will comment later. Maybe during the weekend. I need to check if I have received the document,” the Umno Supreme Council member told FMT.
Yesterday, Muhyiddin sent the letter of demand to Puad for allegedly defaming him through a Facebook post last week.
In the letter, issued by Muhyiddin’s law firm Rosli Dahlan Saravana Partnership, the prime minister, among others, demanded Puad to unequivocally remove a posting on Feb 9 over quarantine statements from his Facebook page under the name “Dr Mohd Puad Zarkashi”.
He gave Puad seven days to comply with the demand.
Earlier this month, the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) threatened to sue Puad over his remarks on the three-day observation rule for ministers returning from overseas.
In a Facebook post, Puad had questioned if the new rule was linked to the prime minister’s return from his official visit to Indonesia.
The rule is contained in a new ministerial order which was enforced on Feb 9 until Aug 1, requiring ministers to only undergo observation for three days or undergo surveillance until they can be discharged without danger to the public.
The PMO said there was no truth to Puad’s remarks, adding it was malicious.
