Armed snatch theft suspect arrested by Selangor cops

Police say the 25-year-old man was found to be in possession of the victim's personal belongings.

The suspect attacked his victim and snatched her handbag after she had fallen.

Selangor police have arrested a 25-year-old man who is believed to be a suspect in a snatch theft in Kuala Langat this morning, after a video clip of the incident going viral on social media.

The 97-second clip showed a woman who just alighted from her parked car and was heading to a nearby office building, when she was chased, then attacked by the suspect who was carrying a parang. He snatched her handbag after she had fallen on the pavement.

In a statement, the Selangor police contingent confirmed that the incident had occurred along Eco Sanctuari, Jalan 8/2A, Telok Panglima Garang in Kuala Langat, Selangor at around 8.20am.

“The victim is a woman of Chinese descent aged 51, who made a police report regarding the incident at the Telong Panglima Garang police station,” the police said.

The Serious Crimes Division (D9) of the Selangor police contingent’s headquarters arrested the suspect in Shah Alam at about 4pm, according to the statement.

“During the arrest, police seized several items believed to belong to the snatch theft victim in this case.”

The Selangor police thanked all those involved in assisting the police and providing information to successfully arrest the suspect.
