Umno postpones AGM following emergency, MCO

Umno secretary-general Ahmad Maslan says a new date would be announced later.

The Umno general assembly scheduled for the end of this month has been postponed.
PETALING JAYA:
Umno has postponed its annual general assembly, which was to decide on its relationship with PPBM, to a later date following the emergency proclamation and movement control order.

The AGM was initially scheduled to be held on Jan 30 and Jan 31.

In a brief statement, the party’s secretary-general Ahmad Maslan said a new date would be announced later.

However, Ahmad said party president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi agreed for party polls at all levels to continue as scheduled.

“In the meantime, all Umno members are reminded to close ranks and focus on helping the people in such challenging times.

Earlier this month, the Umno Supreme Council deferred any decision on the party’s support for PPBM to its AGM.

This came in the wake of reports of a widening rift between notable party leaders over Umno’s continued support for the Perikatan Nasional (PN) government.

Most of the 191 party divisions called for Umno to withdraw its cooperation with PPBM. A decision at the AGM to withdraw support for PPBM would lead to the collapse of the PN government.

Kelantan Umno chief Ahmad Jazlan Yaakub, who is MP for Machang as well as Padang Rengas MP former minister Nazri Aziz have already withdrawn their support for the government.
