Other criteria which must be met include that the patients do not belong to any high-risk group, have someone to look after them, and live in a place which allows them to be isolated from others in the home.
Health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the quarantine period is 10 days, as the potential for spreading the virus after this period is very low.
A health worker from the nearest Covid-19 Assessment Centre (CAC) will assess a patient’s condition and the conditions of their home to see if the person is able to undergo home quarantine.
“The health ministry advises individuals who have been informed that they are Covid-19 positive to remain at home and be contactable at all times,” he said.
He said those who tested positive for the virus and are at home should self-isolate in a room, ideally with its own bathroom, which must be cleaned after use.

The patients should avoid face-to-face interaction with other residents. “If interaction cannot be avoided, ensure both parties are wearing face masks.”
Those undergoing quarantine at home are required to update health workers of their status or through the MySejahtera app. “If symptoms worsen, contact the CAC or the nearest health clinic or 999 for emergency cases.”
Noor Hisham said close contacts of positive cases must undergo quarantine or isolate themselves.
“The priority for Covid-19 swab tests will be given to those with symptoms as the possibility of swab tests for all close contacts may not be possible in certain districts or states with high case loads.
“The emphasis is on isolating all individuals exposed to positive cases to avoid them infecting others.”
