Kuching, Sibu and Miri to be placed under CMCO

Travel restrictions and shorter business hours announced as Sarawak records 153 new cases.

KUCHING:
Travel and business restrictions under a conditional MCO have been announced for Kuching, Sibu and Miri from Jan 13 to Jan 26, after the state reported 153 Covid-19 cases today.

Kota Samarahan and Serian, part of the Kuching zone, and Sarikei (Sibu zone) are also affected.

Sarawak disaster management committee chairman Douglas Uggah Embas said police permits are needed for travel in and out of the three affected zones.

Shorter business hours for commercial houses will be announced tomorrow, he said.

Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin has announced that Sarawak will continue with the relaxed restrictions of the recovery MCO except for the three zones.

Uggah said out of the 153 cases reported in Sarawak today, 94 cases were detected in Miri, Sibu (25), Dalat (17), Kuching (13), two in Sri Aman and one each in Selangau and Beluru.

He said 60 cases detected in Miri required further investigations to determine where they were infected while 23 cases were linked to Bah Sayap Cluster, four linked to Stutong Cluster, two linked to Pasai Cluster, three linked to Jelita Cluster and two imported cases from high risk areas.

To date, Sarawak has reported 1,482 cases, including 19 deaths.
