My work continues from behind the scenes, says Nurul Izzah

The Permatang Pauh MP had stepped down as PKR vice-president, a month after being elected to the post.

Permatang Pauh MP Nurul Izzah Anwar said more political leaders should be working for the people from ‘behind the scenes’.
PETALING JAYA:
Permatang Pauh MP Nurul Izzah Anwar said she was focusing on doing political work from “behind the scenes”.

“I feel that is more healthy for the party,” Nurul Izzah said after attending the launch of the Young Professional Bureau of PKR Youth today.

More politicians should be doing the same, she said when answering a question whether her presence today meant she was returning to active politics after a hiatus.

Last Dec 20, PKR secretary-general Saifuddin Nasution said Nurul Izzah must decide if she wanted to return to playing an active role in the mainstream political arena.

The statement followed calls for young political leaders, including Nurul Izzah, to come forward to play a more active leadership role.

This came amid an internal crisis in the Pakatan Harapan (PH) leadership after a spat among notable leaders about the direction of the political coalition.

In December 2018, Nurul Izzah stepped down as PKR vice-president, one month after being elected to the post.

Last July, the MP said she would be carrying out duties to strengthen the party machinery but refused to get involved in active politics, despite being involved in the issue of PH’s prime ministerial candidate.

Aside from Nurul Izzah, former PKR vice-president Rafizi Ramli had also announced he would be stepping away from politics in 2019, saying he was more interested in focusing on technological advancement.
