Kuala Lumpur Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department chief Zulkefly Yahya identified him as Ho Yan Fee, 75.
“Initial investigations showed that he fell after his motorcycle ran over a pothole along the road from Jalan Connaught heading to Mid Valley Megamall.
“His remains will be taken to the Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia Hospital for a post-mortem,” he said in a statement.
Zulkefly said they had classified Ho’s death under Section 41(1) of Road Transport Act, for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving.
The prevalence of potholes has been the subject of much discussion in the mass media recently, after after Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Khairy Jamaluddin fell and injured himself when his bicycle hit a pothole in Banting, Selangor, on Dec 27.
The Public Works Department (JKR) later apologised to Khairy and said they would take prompt action to patch the pothole.
However, social media users had criticised the department for “practising double standards”, questioning whether they would have acted as quickly if it did not involve a VIP.
On Dec 31, the Shah Alam High Court allowed a foreigner’s appeal to claim RM48,700 for negligence against the government for injuries sustained after his motorcycle hit a pothole along Jalan Kuala Selangor six years ago.
