Johor recorded the highest number of cases for the first time with 607 infections.

Health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said there were 745 recoveries, bringing the total number of those discharged to 87,460.

In a statement, Noor Hisham said the total number of infections now stands at 110,485.

There are 22,562 active cases with 131 patients in intensive care, of which 62 require respiratory assistance.

Meanwhile, the six deaths bring the toll to 463.

The six deaths involved five Malaysians and one foreigner each from Sabah, Selangor and Johor. They were aged between 45 and 69 and all except the foreigner had pre-existing conditions.

Of the 607 cases in Johor, Noor Hisham said 578 were from existing clusters and close-contact screenings.

The reason for the state’s spike in daily cases is due largely to the newly-identified Tembok Choh cluster, which recorded 374 infections today.

Selangor had 472 cases, most of which were detected through active close-contact screenings being carried out on the field.

In other states and federal territories, Noor Hisham said Sabah reported 280 cases in the last 24 hours, while Kuala Lumpur reported 218 and Penang 69.

Meanwhile, Kelantan reported 56 cases followed by Perak (48), Pahang (48), Negeri Sembilan (34), Kedah (23), Melaka (8), Labuan (2), Terengganu (2), Sarawak (1) and Putrajaya (1).

Perlis did not report any new Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours.

Some 402 cases today were related to prison and immigration depot clusters, namely the Tembok Choh (374), Jalan Harapan prison (8), Pagar Bentong (6), Tembok Mempaga (4), Tembok (4), Pagar Siput (3), Tembok Gajah (2) and Hala Mutiara (1).

There were only two imported cases reported.
