After wrong count, Dewan introduces new voting system

KUALA LUMPUR:
Dewan Rakyat speaker Azhar Azizan Harun has set in motion a new voting system to prevent errors during the voting process.

Azhar said those in charge of naming the MPs present in the house will be monitored by MPs from the opposing side. This is to ensure everyone is accounted for.

He said this just before the voting for the international trade and industry ministry’s budget at the committee stage.

This comes after Shabudin Yahaya (BN-Tasek Gelugor) had wrongly included Nazri Aziz (BN-Padang Rengas) in the list of those supporting the finance ministry’s budget at the committee stage, when Nazri was not present in the house.

The wrong vote count saw opposition MPs questioning the credibility of the process.
