KOTA KINABALU:
Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) has been given the responsibility of establishing the accuracy and effectiveness of a Covid-19 test kit manufactured by a company in Wuhan, China.

The study, a collaboration between the university and the Sabah China Chamber of Commerce (SCCC), is aimed at expanding efforts to contain the pandemic in the state.

SCCC secretary-general Tan Kok Jyh said the test kit was unlike those being used in the field now.

“We are sensitive towards the virus situation in Sabah and so we managed to obtain this test kit from China to study.

“UMS is the first university to be given this trust because we are aware of its ability and expertise, and it is also adequately equipped to conduct such a study,” he told reporters during an event at UMS here today.

UMS vice-chancellor Taufiq Yap Yun Hin was grateful for the opportunity, saying the university hoped to be able to contribute towards bringing the virus under control.
