PETALING JAYA:
The National Higher Education Fund Corporation (PTPTN) recorded a 173.65% increase in student loan repayments for the month of October compared with April.

PTPTN CEO Ahmad Dasuki Abdul Majid said it received RM103.03 million in repayments in October, while April’s repayments only amounted to RM37.65 million.

“This shows that PTPTN borrowers are still committed to repaying their study loans despite being in difficult circumstances as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic,” he said in a statement.

He thanked PTPTN borrowers for continuing to pay back their loans even during the deferment period.

The suspension of monthly student loan repayments, which began on March 19, has been extended to December after being initially scheduled to end on Sept 30.

PTPTN said 1.5 million borrowers are benefitting from the deferment, with repayments amounting to RM1.13 billion from March to December.
