
The Klang Valley cases comprised 271 in Selangor, 245 in Kuala Lumpur and two in Putrajaya.
The number of new infections in Malaysia has exceeded 1,000 for the fifth day in a row.
In a statement, health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the 1,210 cases brought the total number of infections in the country to 49,730.
Noor Hisham said there were 1,018 recoveries, bringing the total number of those discharged to 36,624.
Five deaths were also reported, bringing the death toll to 318.
The five deaths recorded today involved four individuals from Sabah and one in Perak, aged between 25 and 80. Except for one woman in Sabah, all of them suffered from chronic health conditions.
Most of the new cases in Sabah were from existing clusters, with 112 infections detected in the new Avenue and Kejora clusters in Penampang and Kota Kinabalu respectively.
The bulk of the infections in the Klang Valley, or 206 cases, were from the Damanlela Construction Site cluster in Selangor and Kuala Lumpur. Another 131 cases were detected from the Teratai cluster in Selangor.
The other new cases reported today were in Negeri Sembilan (67), Perak (47), Penang (33), Kelantan (19), Johor (14), Kedah (8), Melaka (2), Labuan (1), Terengganu (1) and Sarawak (1).
Perlis and Pahang were the only states that did not record any new Covid-19 infections today.
Noor Hisham said there were currently 12,788 active cases, with 105 patients receiving intensive care, 40 of whom require respiratory assistance.
There were 172 cases from prison clusters today, 122 of which were from the Sandakan prison cluster in Sabah.
Nineteen infections were imported cases, involving five Malaysians and 14 foreigners entering the country from Nepal, Qatar, India, Philippines, Nigeria, US, Turkey, Russia, Tunisia, Romania and Myanmar.
