
According to an internal circular sighted by FMT, the first case recorded at the factory was on Nov 4, but six people from close contact screenings of the first case tested positive today.
The factory has been closed since Wednesday for disinfection, the memo read.
FMT contacted the factory for a response, but a telephone operator said no one was available to talk as “everyone has gone back home”. The operator declined to say if it was due to Covid-19.
Twenty-six new Covid-19 cases have been reported in the Mukim 12 subdistrict – where the Bayan Lepas Free Industrial Zone is located – as of yesterday, bringing the total number of cases there to 69.
A total of 1,510 cases have been reported in Penang, including 552 in the past two weeks, of which 325 are active.
