12 new PAC members named after chairman says ‘time wasted’

Committee chief Wong Kah Woh says no meeting has been held since February.

PAC chairman Wong Kah Woh says the committee is important for Parliament to play its role as a check and balance on the executive’s administration.
PETALING JAYA:
Twelve new members of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) were confirmed today following the appointments of Wong Kah Woh (PH-Ipoh Timur) as chairman and Azizah Mohd Dun (PPBM-Beaufort) as deputy chairman during the last parliamentary meeting in August.

Eight of the new members are from the government and four from the opposition.

In a statement today, speaker Azhar Azizan Harun listed the new government members as Mohd Fasiah Fakeh (PPBM-Sabak Bernam), Yamani Hafez Musa (PPBM-Sipitang), Ahmad Maslan (BN-Pontian), Noh Omar (BN-Tanjung Karang), Jalaluddin Alias (BN-Jelebu), Lukanisman Awang Sauni (GPS-Sibuti), Ahmad Fadhli Shaari (PAS-Pasir Mas) and Ahmad Tarmizi Sulaiman (PAS-Sik).

Those appointed from the opposition are PH’s Nurul Izzah Anwar (Permatang Pauh), Mohd Hatta Ramli (Lumut) and Wong Shu Qi (Kluang) and Warisan’s Ahmad Hassan (Papar).

Kah Woh, Nurul Izzah and Azizah were also appointed to the committee during the previous Pakatan Harapan administration.

Last week, Kah Woh urged Azhar to appoint the members of the PAC when Parliament reconvened yesterday, saying it needed to make up for lost time after being “paralysed” since March.

“Although the PAC’s chairman and deputy chairman were appointed during the previous Parliament meeting, PAC meetings have been put on hold since February as the other members of the committee have yet to be appointed,” he said.

“An effective and efficient PAC is important for Parliament to play its role as a check and balance on the executive’s administration. We cannot afford any more delays in carrying out our work.”
