PETALING JAYA:
An aide to Amirudin Shari has maintained that the Selangor menteri besar (MB) did not breach any mandatory quarantine orders after returning from Sabah as he had been given clearance after his first Covid-19 test came back negative.

Amirudin’s special officer, Saifuddin Shafi Muhammad, said the menteri besar’s office received the investigation papers from the police today, with the probe being conducted under Sections 15 and 22(b) of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act.

“According to the federal government’s directive, an individual does not have to undergo quarantine any more after testing negative following the RT-PCR screening.

“Additionally, Amirudin was also given a clearance letter from undergoing home quarantine following his results. However, he continued to self-quarantine himself as a precautionary measure,” he said in a statement today.

Saifuddin said Amirudin had also been accountable to the public by informing them through his social media accounts that he had to end his self-quarantine to help address the recent water disruption in the state.

He said the matter should not be overly “polemicised” and add to the police workload, especially in view of the thousands of officers, affected by the third wave of Covid-19, undergoing quarantine now.

“As an intelligent community, we must look at the facts and the law before making any allegations. The MB’s office assures (everybody) that full cooperation will be given to the police in respect of the rule of law.”

Amirudin had on Oct 4, via Twitter, admitted that he had breached his quarantine to look into the pollution of Sungai Semenyih that had led to water cuts affecting some 300,000 consumers, apologising for having to do so.
