Finas prepares action plan to keep cinemas going

Communications Minister Saifuddin Abdullah says Putrajaya is willing to assist cinemas with entertainment tax levied by local councils.

The GSC and TGV Cinema chains have said they are suspending operations from Nov 2.
KUANTAN:
Finas, the national film development corporation, is preparing an action plan especially to assist cinemas which have to temporarily stop operations because of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Communications and Multimedia Minister Saifuddin Abdullah said Finas had begun working on an action plan upon hearing that cinemas may be closed over the lack of patrons.

He said the action plan was being prepared by Finas CEO Ahmad Idham Ahmad Nadzri and deputy chairman Norman Abdul Halim.

“We will also review to assist them over the question of entertainment tax which is under the jurisdiction of local authorities and we are prepared to negotiate with them,” he said.

Two cinema networks, Golden Screen Cinemas (GSC) and TGV Cinemas were reported to be closing their operations temporarily from Nov 2 in view of the surge in Covid-19 cases.
