Pokok Sena prison EMCO extended, Tawau prison lockdown to end

Senior Minister for Security Ismail Sabri Yaakob said police detained 639 people yesterday for flouting the RMCO.

The EMCO for the Pokok Sena prison was set to end tomorrow.
PETALING JAYA:
The enhanced movement control order (EMCO) on the Pokok Sena prison has been extended to Nov 7, as Covid-19 cases are still being detected.

Senior Minister for Security Ismail Sabri Yaakob said the lockdown on the prison, which was first implemented on Oct 11, was set to end tomorrow.

“Based on the advice of the National Security Council (MKN) and health ministry, the government has agreed to extend the Pokok Sena prison EMCO for 14 more days to Nov 7,” he said in a statement today.

Meanwhile, the EMCO on the Tawau Prison and Taman Ehsan prison quarters will end on Oct 25, although the localities will still be subject to the ongoing conditional MCO in Sabah.

He said 1,250 prisoners and 1,196 staff have been screened in both areas.

“There are no active cases recorded in the Tawau prison while there are only two cases in the Taman Ehsan quarters who are receiving treatment,” he added.

Ismail also said 639 people were arrested by police yesterday for breaching the ongoing recovery MCO, with 634 of them fined, four remanded and one granted bail.

The majority of them were caught for failing to record their personal details when entering shops (106), not wearing a mask (209) and not practising physical distancing (228).

The authorities also detained 38 undocumented migrants yesterday as part of the ongoing Ops Benteng campaign. They confiscated three land vehicles and two boats.
