Authorities come down hard on those breaching Covid-19 procedures

Sixty six individuals were compounded and two detained for failing to show proper documents.

PETALING JAYA:
The authorities continue to come down hard on those who breach the Covid-19 procedures, with 66 people receiving compounds and two individuals placed under remand in the last 24 hours.

They failed to wear facemasks, follow physical distancing or to record personal details at the entry of business premises. Some of them also failed to pay their mandatory quarantine accommodation bills.

In a statement, Senior Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob said two illegal migrants were also detained yesterday.

The checks were carried out at supermarkets, restaurants, hawker centres, factories, banks and government offices.Transport hubs and terminals were also monitored to ensure all Malaysians and foreigners followed the SOPs to stop the transmission of the coronavirus.

At the borders, maritime officers carried out checks on 120 foreigners and detained nine illegal migrants at Pengkalan Kubor in Kelantan and another five in Bandar Penawar in Johor for failing to show proper documents.

The statement said the team also seized three ships, two boats and four vehicles during the border checks. A total of 79 road blocks were placed nationwide to prevent illegal migrants coming into the country.

Ismail also said since July 24, 29,438 individuals had entered the country and out of that 19,630 had been allowed to return home. They were placed at 72 different hotels and eight other premises at various institutes nationwide for mandatory quarantine.
