Pollution forces 4 Selangor water treatment plants to shut

Air Selangor says several areas will experience disruptions in water supply.

Pollution in raw water resources was detected at the Rantau Panjang water treatment plant and three other plants this morning.
PETALING JAYA:
The operations of four water treatment plants in Selangor have been suspended after Air Selangor detected pollution in raw water resources this morning.

The Rantau Panjang water treatment plant (WTP) was shut down at 7.15am and operations at phases 1, 2 and 3 (WTP SSP1, WTP SSP2 and WTP SSP3) were also suspended later at 9am.

A total of 1,292 places across seven areas in the Klang Valley have experienced water supply disruption since 10am, including Kuala Lumpur, Petaling, Klang/Shah Alam, Kuala Selangor, Hulu Selangor, Gombak and Kuala Langat.

In a statement, Air Selangor corporate communication head Elina Baseri said they were working with the Selangor Water Management Authority to address the issue but as at 11.30am, pollution was still detected in Sungai Selangor.

She said Air Selangor will be dispatching mobile water tankers to all the affected areas, prioritising hospitals and dialysis centres.

She also said consumers in need of water supply for emergencies may call 15300 or WhatsApp 019-2800919 and 019-2816793 for assistance.

Updates on the water supply disruption will be posted on all of Air Selangor’s communication mediums, and consumers are urged to use water sparingly.
