No more swab tests for those undergoing mandatory quarantine

However, individuals will still be tested if the country from which they come requires them to do so.

Covid-19 swab tests are no longer a must for those undergoing the mandatory quarantine period.
KUALA LUMPUR:
Senior Minister for Security Ismail Sabri Yaakob says those who undergo the mandatory quarantine period when entering the country are no longer required to take a Covid-19 swab test.

This follows his announcement earlier this week that from Friday onwards, Malaysians as well as foreigners who enter the country would be housed in quarantine centres identified by the government.

He said individuals would still be tested if the country from which they come maintain the need for this.

“If the said country requires them to take a swab test, then they will need to take a swab test.

“It also depends on the airline they are flying with. If they have such a requirement, they will need to adhere to it otherwise they won’t be allowed to take the flight.”

Ismail added that while the cost of the swab test and accommodation at the quarantine centre or hotel would be borne by the individual, the government would allow children below 12 to share a room with their parents.

Previously, those coming to Malaysia were required to take a swab test before entering the country.

Ismail also revealed that police had arrested 121 people for flouting the recovery movement control order, 103 of whom were issued compounds.

Authorities also nabbed 2,065 undocumented migrants between May 1 and July 22, along with 121 smugglers.
