Mahathir, Mukhriz Mukhriz, former ministers Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman and Maszlee Malik, along with deputy minister Amiruddin Hamzah and Marzuki Yahya, filed a lawsuit this week, seeking to nullify PPBM’s decision to terminate their membership.

Lawyer Haniff Khatri Abdullah said the application was filed on Friday and the High Court here set June 18 to hear the application for the injunction.

“There are certain prayers in our application, where we want to maintain the status quo of all parties and PPBM until disposal of trial,” he said.

Haniff added they had also served the lawsuit on all defendants, namely PPBM president and acting chairman Muhyiddin Yassin, secretary-general Hamzah Zainudin, executive secretary Muhammad Suhaimi Yahya and Registrar of Societies (RoS) director-general Masyati Abang Ibrahim.

The six men claimed that the decision to terminate their membership was invalid as Suhaimi had no powers to remove them from PPBM, and Suhaimi’s position was also not recognised under the party’s constitution.

They added it was wrong to invoke two articles in PPBM’s constitution against them as the articles only said members who join another political party or resign from PPBM will have their memberships ended.

Besides reinstatement, they are seeking to nullify the membership of Muhyiddin, Hamzah and Suhaimi on grounds that they had joined the Perikatan Nasional coalition.

Mahathir, Mukhriz, Syed Saddiq, Maszlee and Amiruddin rejected their termination and affirmed they did not breach the party’s constitution by sitting with the opposition bloc.
