The husband, factory worker Khairizul Mohamad Noor, 39, had died on the spot, while his wife, Zuriana Hasan, 36, suffered head and body injuries.
The car which crashed into them was believed to have been driven by a drunk driver. The accident took place at 5am on Feb 9 near the Perai exit of the North-South Expressway.
Zuriana had been in a coma in the Intensive Care Unit of Seberang Jaya hospital since her admission.
“Mother was seriously injured in the crash and was in a coma. We visited her at the hospital every day and she began to respond by moving her hands or legs when we called her,” her eldest daughter, Nur Afni Nirvana, said.
Nur Afni, 16, told reporters after her mother’s funeral today that the doctor had informed the family two days ago about her mother’s deteriorating condition.
“We immediately went to the hospital and, sure enough, she was not responding to us. We were asked to be prepared for any eventuality.”
The couple’s four other children are Nur Istna Nadira, 14, Nur Erna Nabila, 12, Nur Qurratu Ain, 7, and Muhammad Khairi Zafran, aged 11 months.
Nur Afni said the five siblings lived with their grandparents.
She hoped the person driving the car, which crashed into her parents’ motorcycle, would receive just punishment.
