11 fined RM1,000 for jogging during MCO

The 11 men who were arrested last week for jogging around Jalan Mont Kiara and Jalan Desa Kiara must pay RM1,000 each or face a jail term of one month.

Outdoor activities like jogging are prohibited under the movement control order.
KUALA LUMPUR:
Nine foreigners and two Malaysians were fined RM1,000 each by the Magistrate’s Court here for breaching the movement control order (MCO) by jogging in their neighbourhood.

Magistrate Muhammad Aizat Abdul Rahim handed down the fine after they admitted to the charges under Rule 7(1) of Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases (Measures within the Infected Local Areas) Regulations.

They committed the offence on the evening of March 29. If they fail to pay their fines, they will be jailed for a month.

The 11 were Japanese nationals Tanakatoshihiko, Koichi Itano, Mitsuhiru Takayanagi, Taichi Okubo; Korean nationals Woo Yum Sik, Lee Jong Young, Kwang Suk Lee; British national Jamie Bubb Sacklyn; Indian national Vikram Belliappa and locals Ramani Sivarama Krishnan and Au Yong Vooi Loon.

They were found jogging by a team of police officers who had been conducting a patrol in the Mont Kiara area.

City police chief Mazlan Lazim previously said 11 men were arrested last week for jogging around Jalan Mont Kiara and Jalan Desa Kiara despite the MCO.

He said they were released after the police recorded their statements.
