Enforcement personnel can do whatever it takes to enforce MCO, says minister

Minister in the PM's Department Takiyuddin Hassan says they can also arrest and detain people until they are sentenced to prison or fined by the courts.

KUALA LUMPUR:
Those empowered to enforce the movement control order (MCO) imposed by the government to contain Covid-19 can use whatever means required, including force, to ensure compliance, says Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Parliament and Law) Takiyuddin Hassan.

He added that enforcement personnel can also arrest and detain such individuals until they are sentenced to prison or fined by the courts.

In a statement issued yesterday, he said it is essential that everyone cooperates with enforcement personnel to ensure that the government’s measure to save lives is truly effective.

The MCO was imposed on March 18. It was originally supposed to end on March 31 but was yesterday extended until April 14.
