Efforts to recover 1MDB funds will continue, says PM

Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin has been given a special briefing by the task force assigned to trace 1MDB's money overseas.

PETALING JAYA:
Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin has instructed for efforts to trace and recover 1MDB money to continue.

In a statement, the Prime Minister’s Office said Muhyiddin was given a special briefing today by the task force assigned to recover 1MDB’s funds overseas.

The task force comprises representatives from the Attorney-General’s Chambers, National Financial Crime Centre, the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission, the police, Bank Negara Malaysia and the finance ministry.

“In the briefing, the prime minister was informed that a total of RM1.4 billion has been recovered due to the task force’s efforts while another RM6.9 billion has been identified,” the statement said.

It said the task force also gave Muhyiddin details of its efforts to recover 1MDB funds which are believed to have been misused in 17 countries.

Last November, then-de facto law minister Liew Vui Keong said only around 1% of the total RM150 billion cash and assets linked to 1MDB had been recovered so far.
