The minister in charge of Islamic affairs, Zulkifli Mohamad al-Bakri, said the decision was taken by command of the Yang Di-Pertuan Agong, Sultan Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah, who is head of the religion for the territories.
The decision comes after a meeting of the national council for Islamic affairs on Sunday, and a briefing by the health ministry.
Zulkifli said if any person dies from Covid-19 infection, the body must be handled in accordance with the decision made by the national fatwa committee for suspected or confirmed Ebola virus cases in Malaysia.
“The body can be managed through the tayammum procedure on the surface of the body bag or plastic wrap that covers it,” said Zulkifli.
