Chief commissioner Latheefa Koya said the MACC found this to be a serious issue that needs further probing.
“Our issue is not over the revelation of the assets but how he got these assets,” she said after testifying in Najib Razak’s SRC International trial.
Yesterday, Tengku Adnan, commonly known as Ku Nan, told the court he had in 2001 declared over RM900 million in assets when he joined Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s administration as a deputy minister.
Subsequently, he declared between RM600 million and RM700 million when he served under the premierships of Abdullah Ahmad Badawi and Najib.
Tengku Adnan is standing trial on a charge of allegedly receiving RM2 million from businessman Chai Kin Kong despite knowing that Chai’s companies had dealings with the federal territories ministry, which was under him at the time.
In his defence, he said he had not benefited from the money, which was paid to his company, Tadmansori Holdings, in 2016, as it was a political donation for two by-elections.
PPBM youth wing (Armada) chief Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman today said on Twitter that Umno and PAS MPs should declare their assets.
“If Ku Nan, BN’s secretary-general, can gather RM1 billion in assets, imagine other BN leaders,” he said.
