PETALING JAYA: He may no longer helm the country, but it was back to work for Dr Mahathir Mohamad today after the end of a week-long political crisis that saw the break-up of his coalition and the installation of a new prime minister.

True to his principle that work never stops, Mahathir arrived at his office in Putrajaya at 9.30am.

In a video shared on social media, he was seen arriving at the Perdana Leadership Foundation, feeding the fish at the entrance and chatting with staff members who had gathered to greet him.

“I have a lot of writing to do,” he said before walking up to his office.

Mahathir had served as interim prime minister until Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah appointed PPBM president Muhyiddin Yassin as his replacement.

One of his aides told FMT that the Langkawi MP also had several appointments lined up for the day.

Last year, when FMT had the chance to follow the 94-year-old for a day in the country’s highest office, Mahathir had spoken about the importance of working.

“In order to keep alive, you must work. If you go to sleep, you will die, so I have to work,” he said.
