Indonesian charged with possession of IS-related items

The construction worker was allegedly found with the materials at a house in Balik Pulau on Jan 6.

The accused faces a seven-year jail term and a fine if found guilty under the Penal Code of possessing items associated with terrorist groups or acts.

An Indonesian construction worker was today charged in the Sessions Court here with possessing Islamic State (IS) materials at a house in Balik Pulau on Jan 6.

Irwanzir, 30, of Acheh, faces a seven-year jail term and a fine if found guilty under Section 130JB(1)(a) of the Penal Code of possessing items associated with terrorist groups or acts.

No plea was recorded as it was a terror-related charge. Judge Norsalha Hamzah set March 5 for mention to receive forensic reports on the materials found.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Izhanudin Alias prosecuted. Irwanzir was not represented.
