Man who climbed 150m tower to sulk persuaded to come down after 30 hours

The 35-year-old Indonesian carpenter had earlier thrown objects at rescue workers who tried to bring him down.

A man who climbed a 150m telecommunications tower in Bukit Mamaloh and stayed up there for more than 30 hours since early yesterday, finally came down at 3.50pm today.

Kanowit fire and rescue station chief Arrahman Chik said two firemen had earlier gone to the location to persuade the man, identified as a 35-year-old Indonesian, to come down.

The man, who worked as a carpenter shocked locals yesterday morning when he climbed the telecommunications tower after a disagreement with his colleagues.

Policemen tried to persuade him to get down from about 8am but failed.

The man allegedly threw objects at the firemen and policemen, causing them to temporarily suspend the rescue operation. Attempts resumed today.
